On Friday November 19, 2010, Our students got a special visit by two-time Grammy award winning animation director, Nelson Recinos. He has over ten years of experience as a producer/director/creator with more than twenty years of experience in the animation industry. Nelson has also won a Prism Award for directing an anti-smoking episode of Pinky and the Brain, “Inherit the Wheeze,” and he was also nominated for three Annie Awards.

He inspired our students to. “Find their Passion”, and not let anything get in the way. Like many of our students, Nelson is an immigrant who had to overcome many obstacles to succeed in this country. What with strong work habits and a dream, anyone can succeed in this country and be a productive member of our society.

At Warner Brothers Animation, he directed some of their top rated shows such as “Pinky and the Brain," for which he received five Emmy Award nominations and got two of them. He also directed “Batman,”  "Animaniacs," and "Baby Looney Tunes."

Nelson has worked for other animation studios such as: Nickelodeon on “Catdog” and “Oswald the Octopus”, Film Roman on “Super Hero Squad,” and “Garfield” Clasky Csupo on “As Told by Ginger”, and Bill Melendez Productions where he helped animate the classic “Peanuts” cartoons created by Charles  Schulz.

Nelson founded Film Toons Productions, his own production company, in order to produce quality films and Television series.

He has produced a 12 minute pilot that is in the process of being made into a feature length movie.  The name of the movie is “Game Access,” a combination of both traditional animation (2D) and computer animation (3D). It deals with the trials and tribulations of Katie Styles, a smart girl who loves to play video games and usually finds herself in trouble for spending too much time playing them.  The movie will include action, adventure, humor, and morals.

In May 2008, Nelson received a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Woodbury University and has plans to use his artistic and business skills to broaden his contribution to his profession.
