Personal Statement/Philosophy:
I believe that all children deserve to receive a great education with teachers who, in a caring and loving way, guide them in how to learn, how to explore, how to solve problems, and how to think for themselves. Education is where forward-moving and productive societies begin so it is vital that, as a teacher, I am committed to reaching my own potential so that I can encourage my students to reach theirs. As a teacher, I am committed to these values:
· To believe in ALL of my students. Teacher-efficacy is one of the highest indicators of student achievement; students always rise or fall to what they perceive is expected of them. My students will know that I believe they can succeed and that I will expect their best in my classroom. I want to push each child to reach his or her potential and to always act with integrity.
· To have HIGH, CLEAR and CONSISTENT expectations. My students will know, without any doubt, my expectations for behavior and academic achievement. Rewards as well as consequences will be fair and appropriate.
· To provide a SAFE and ENCOURAGING learning environment where all my students can take risks and make mistakes without feeling judgment from myself or their classmates. I will create a collaborative classroom where my students learn to work together and build upon their own and each other’s strengths.
· To VALUE each student for who they are. I am committed to know each of my students as individuals and to know their stories. I am committed to valuing their views and their opinions and allowing them to think for themselves. I want to learn from them as much as they learn from me. I strive to encourage them to tell meaningful stories with their lives.
